The encryption creates a sort of digital tunnel between a user and a Web site -- blocking prying eyes from being able to see or manipulate the data as it is transmitted around the world. Without HTTPS, anyone who has access to traffic between a user and the Web site they are visiting can potentially collect data on the user's online activities, or even change the data that either the visitor or Web site receives without their knowledge. Growing numbers of freighters were backed up around the United States' two busiest cargo hubs on Sunday due to a dispute between shipping companies and dock workers that has led to a partial shutdown of ports along the West Coast. With cargo delays rippling through the U.S. economy, President Barack Obama on Saturday dispatched U.S. Labor Secretary Tom Perez to California to help broker an agreement. Lee Peterson, a spokesman for the port of Long Beach, said that by Sunday morning, 34 container ships, tankers and other cargo vessels were waiting to dock at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, California, up from 32 on Saturday. There's no painless way to put this for snow-choked New England: Get ready for "12 hours of hell," warns Tom Moore, a meteorologist with The Weather Channel. While the region has grown accustomed to record snow this winter, the "fierce storm" descending on the Northeast this weekend could be more dangerous than the previous three storms, he told NBC News. A blizzard warning will apply to parts of New England from about midnight Saturday to noon Sunday. This latest storm doesn't necessarily "look sexy as far as numbers," Moore said, adding that areas such as Boston are expecting about 9 inches of snow compared with measurements in feet during the previous storms. I wanted to share this, since I thought that this series took away the Hollywood character of the Bear Grylls and friends survival series and actually shows more of the real deal for people that are not as highly trained. It also shows how making bad decisions can cost you a lot. It's definitely slower than the other series, but it also seems more real. I say it seem more real because you never ever know 100% if it was staged or not. I do think that if this was staged though, it was a freaking amazing performance. :-)

Twenty-six-year-old Ylsa Tellez's younger sister, 24-year-old Maura Tellez, was one of more than two dozen confirmed cases of measles recently at the renowned amusement part, but Ylsa is not one of them, the local ABC affiliate, ABC7, reports. As of this writing, Ylsa said she feels fine and has no symptoms of the disease. Nevertheless, days after her sister was diagnosed, Ylsa got a call from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and then a visit from the local health department, both of whom sought to convince her to self-quarantine. "(They were) saying I need to get vaccinated and I need to be quarantined, otherwise I'm going to go to jail or something, or I'm going to get a misdemeanor," Ylsa told the local ABC affiliate, adding that she decided instead against becoming a prisoner insider her own home -- though a quarantine order may be in the offing. http://bit.ly/1DQFpmr

A San Francisco woman battling cancer is prepared to battle the state of California in court for what she says is her right to die on her own terms. Christie White said Wednesday at a news conference: "I am suing the state of California to help me achieve a peaceful and dignified death at the place and time of my choosing." White has had both leukemia or lymphoma since 2007, undergoing rounds of radiation, chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant. Though she's in partial remission now, White doesn't want to follow Brittany Maynard's move to Oregon to achieve her goal; her lawsuit says she would like "to have the option of aid in dying in California." State Attorney General Kamala Harris is listed as the defendant on the lawsuit, as she's the only one who can overturn a previous law. A United Nations watchdog called on Mexico on Friday to probe and prosecute alleged complicity of state forces in "disappearances", including a notorious case of 43 students believed murdered last year. Mexico's delegation told the U.N. Committee on Enforced Disappearances at a review last week that 11,300 people were unaccounted for. Amnesty International said in a statement that more than 22,600 had gone missing in the past eight years amid "a huge problem of impunity." Scientists genetically modified mosquitoes and mixed their genes with the deadly disease E COLI. They plan to release MILLIONS of these Mosquitoes into the air near Florida this year. Yes, this is really about to happen! Just a few years back they did this on the Cayman Islands, just off the coast of Florida, in the Caribbean! Very soon after that, this E coli began spreading in epidemic proportions. Could this more direct release, in Florida, make for an even larger E coli Epidemic as it's result? Only time will tell.
